Everything to Know About Lake Las Vegas
You heard of Lake Mead, but what about Vegas’ other man-made body of water? Meet Lake Las Vegas, a 320-acre lake surrounded by hotels, condos, housing, shopping, and a beautiful golf course.
Think of it as Vegas’ more glamorous cousin, not surrounded by first-time tourists. There’s also a lot of greenery—making it seem like you’re in a different state.
Never heard of this place before? Don’t worry; we’ll review everything you need to know about Lake Las Vegas. Keep reading below!
Lake Las Vegas Isn’t in Las Vegas
Yes, you read that right. As funny as it sounds, Lake Las Vegas isn’t even in Vegas! It’s located in Henderson, a neighboring city.
But don’t worry about its location, it’s only a 25-minute drive from the Strip. Most of the land surrounding the road up there is undeveloped, making it a peaceful commute near the mountains.
Is Swimming Allowed in Lake Las Vegas?
Yes, indeed! What’s a lake without a few water sports? Lake Las Vegas takes it up a notch by offering a wide variety of them.
Notably, swimming is a popular activity, making it a favorite spot for both locals and tourists. In addition to swimming, Lake Las Vegas also accommodates activities such as paddle boarding, kayaking, and even pedal boats for you to rent. Those looking for more excitement will get a kick out of flyboarding and operating a water-propelled jetpack.
Want to bring the kids with you? They’ll love Vegas’ first floating aqua park. It features a multitude of inflatable slides, trampolines, jumps, and more!
It’s Home to Beautiful Golf Courses
Lake Las Vegas is a little slice of paradise for golfers. The green fields extend out onto the lake, giving you 360-degree views of glimmering water and rugged mountains.
Reflection Bay Golf Club, designed by 18-time Major winner Jack Nicklaus, is open to the public. You’ll play on the same grounds champions did such as Fred Couples, Bubba Watson, John Daly, and Phil Mickelson.
Their 32,000-square-foot clubhouse has a golf shop along with restaurants. After a long day of golfing, you can retreat to the clubhouse to unwind. You’ll also have access to their private white sand beach, which hosts live concerts on a floating stage.
There Are Plenty of Restaurants
Whether you’re looking for a casual or fine dining setting, you’ll find it all at the lake. There’s a wide variety of restaurants to choose from, catering to whatever you’re in the mood for.
Bellalinda Gelateria Italiana sits on the lake and serves some of the best gelato, sorbet, milkshakes, and crepes. For a morning pick-me-up, they also have coffee and cappuccinos available.
Rick’s Café offers a mix of Mediterranean and American cuisine. It’s the perfect spot for families looking to enjoy a good meal together.
What about those looking to cook a fresh meal? You’ll want to stop by Seasons Grocery.
It’s a neighborhood grocery store (open to residents and visitors) stocked with the freshest produce at great prices. It’s a one-stop shop for household essentials and a bite to eat with their “Grab & Go” selections.
There Are Plenty of Hiking Trails
Lake Las Vegas is suited for those who love to be outdoors. Besides the gorgeous lake, there are many hiking trails to get you closer to nature.
Those visiting will love all the options they’ll have at their disposal. Henderson is home to offsite trails which span over 184 miles. They also feature the most extensive trail system in Nevada.
Don’t mind taking a road trip? You can also easily reach Lake Mead from Lake Las Vegas. Their historic railroad trail is ideal for hikers and bikers alike.
Another amazing place you’re near is Clark County Wetlands Park. It’s full of desert flora and fauna along with wildlife creatures like coyotes, desert tortoises, and jackrabbits.
Choose From Two Resorts
Sounds like a dream to stay in Lake Las Vegas, right? You can! There are two resorts to choose from: The Westin and The Hilton.
The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa is a lakefront property spanning 21 acres. It’s newly renovated, featuring revamp hotel suites with modern designs and more amenities. Their services and amenities include a barber/beauty shop, 24-hour room service, on-site laundry, and even a buffet breakfast.
The Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa, on the other hand, is another lakefront property, tucked against mountains. There, they offer the same amenities as The Westin, but this one you can bring your pets to. Their resort-style pool is where you can relax and unwind in your very own private cabana.
No matter where you choose to stay, you can’t go wrong with your choices.
There’s a Sports Club
When you join the Lake Las Vegas Sports Club, home of UNLV’s Sports Science Center, you’ll gain access to their tennis courts and pickleball club. Since it’s part of UNLV (University of Nevada, Las Vegas), members can enjoy state-of-the-art equipment and participate in health and fitness assessments. For those who are looking for less strenuous activities, there’s also a watercolor and book club.
While all of this sounds great, there is one major downside. You have to be a Lake Las Vegas resident.
The Houses Are Gorgeous
Who hasn’t dreamed of a lakefront house? The homes in Lake Las Vegas look like the ones in magazines. They were built with the best home builders in Nevada, pairing style with comfort.
There are even custom lots to choose from which include an 8,000-square-foot home right on the lake in Reflection Bay. On the drive up, you’ll see a lot of the beautiful houses that are available.
Not only would you be buying a home on a lake, but you’ll also gain access to a lot of their resident-only amenities. Who wouldn’t love that?
