Great 2016 Edition for the WSOP
The 47th World Series Of Poker (WSOP) is coming to an end with Michael Turiniec having taken down the last event of the series, Event #69 Little One for One Drop and just 22 players remaining in the Main Event that will be heading towards the final 9 tonight during Day 7.
More than $221 million have come together in the prize pools this year with 107.833 entries in total over the 69 events of the past weeks. This is an increase of 4.2% in comparison to the 2015 series. It is the second time in a row that the number of entries exceeds the 100k-mark.
All in all, players from 107 nations came to participate and to generate a total of 15.767 ITM finishes after the WSOP management decided to increase the percentage of paid players from 10 to 15% of the fields.
Here is the top ten of the nations in terms of number of participants:
- 1. U.S.A. (84.027)
- 2. Canada (4.586)
- 3. U.K. (4.388)
- 4. France (1.293)
- 5. Russland (1.280)
- 6. Germany (1.169)
- 7. Brazil (970)
- 8. Australia (955)
- 9. Austria (667)
- 10. Italy (658)
The precise amount gathered in all the 2016 prize pools is $221.211.336. This is the third-best score in WSOP history where one has to consider that the two better editions contained an event with a buy-in of $1 million.
On average, 1.563 players took part in every event (1.522 in 2015) and the Main Event saw 6.737 entrants trying their luck in the most prestigious Poker event on the planet. $63.327.800 came together in the Main Event prize pool for a first place-finisher that will be awarded $8 million.
An amazing milestone has been passed this year as the total amount of payouts throughout the 47-year history of the WSOP has exceeded the $2.5 billion-mark this summer ($2.501.743.327) and the 2016 prize pool cumulation saw a 5.1%-increase since last year going from $210.379.285 to $221.211.336.
All we need now is the list of the November Nine names to call it a day for this summer and before we come back to Vegas in late October for the great final. LasVegasJaunt.com will of course still be around to provide you with the best Las Vegas hotel deals if you are intending to come back to assist to the 47th WSOP Main Event final table. Until then, updates will still be available on wsop.com.
