10 Las Vegas Outdoor Activities You Can’t Miss This Fall
Las Vegas has been famous throughout the years for many things. Sadly, most of the city's stereotypes involve casinos, strip clubs, and nightclubs. If you're looking for a place to take your family, or you aren't interested in the humming nightlife of the big city, don't scratch Las Vegas off your list just yet.
Nowadays, there are more options than ever! Did you know that, on top of being a great place to bring kids, there are also a lot of Las Vegas outdoor activities that will allow you to experience the beauty and wildlife of the Midwest?
1. Hike Red Rock Canyon
Just twenty minutes outside of Las Vegas, Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area sticks out as a jagged red horizon against the crystal blue sky and encompasses over 195,000 acres of the beautiful Mojave Desert.
Take a thirteen-mile long one-way drive to the canyon to discover activities such as camping, plants and wildlife, geology, hiking trails, and so much more. Be sure to download a map from their official website so you don't lose your way on one of the 26 different hiking trails.
2. Lake Las Vegas
The Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort is a beautiful mirage in the middle of the desert just 20 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. During the warmer months, enjoy water sports out on the lake. However, if getting wet isn't your style, you can visit Montelago, a Tuscan-themed Village that offers boutique shopping, shows, restaurants, and championship golf.
If you have children, don't forget to stop by Rick's Cafe, where they can take part in family-friendly activities like giant chess and checkers, Ping Pong, and bean bag toss while you relax and enjoy breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
3. Jump Off The Strat Tower
The Strat (Formerly Stratosphere) Tower stands 1,148 ft above the strip, and it is certainly a site to see. However, people aren't flying there from all over the world just to see. They're jumping off of it!
An elevator ride takes you to the very top in less than a minute. After shimming into a jumpsuit and getting harnessed in, take the final step off the edge for a controlled fall that's literally breathtaking.
Prices start at $129.99, and if you loved the adrenaline rush so much that you HAVE to do it again on the same day, you get a discount on your second jump.

4. Hot Springs Near Hoover Dam
The Colorado River is one of the longest rivers in the country, and there are endless activities to do all along it. However, there's one spot nestled beside the Hoover Dam that is best enjoyed during the Fall and Winter.
A short 5-mile hike will bring you to the "Arizona hot spring" where you'll climb a 10-foot ladder and find a cozy nook to relax and soak away the stresses of travel.
5. Go Golfing at Angel Park
Golfing is a relaxing way to combine a great sport with pleasant conversation. Las Vegas has plenty of courses that are open year round, but some of them can be a bit pricey, extravagant, and downright snobby.
You're there to have a good time, but that doesn't mean you have to spend the whole time wondering what other people think. Angel Park is a laidback course in local suburban Summerlin. Legendary professional Arnold Palmer designed the 36 holes in a way that gives you the best layout possible while enjoying breathtaking views of Red Rock Canyon and Lake Las Vegas.
6. Kayak at Black Canyon
Enjoying the hot springs isn't the only thing to do by the Hoover Dam. Many people will rent kayaks to explore the entire area of the Black Canyon via the Colorado River. Having a kayak allows you to not only wind in and out of caves but also easily access other hot springs while you explore.
Can you think of a more peaceful way to fit some cardio into your trip?
7. Skiing Near Mount Charleston
If you think it doesn't snow in the desert, think again. About an hour from Las Vegas Strip is the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort. Four lifts will take visitors up to eleven different trails, and it's a perfect place for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders.
Renting equipment at the base lodge starts at $35, and day passes are between $30-$60.
8. Zip-lining in Bootleg Canyon
Las Vegas has its own zip-line on Fremont Street, and the Stratosphere Tower is definitely worth visiting for any adrenaline junkie. However, the best zip-line in town won't be found in town. Out near Boulder City, a car ride and a short hike will take you to the Bootleg Canyon zip-line.
For $159, set up your reservations in advance and take a shuttle from the Las Vegas Strip. The lines are open from 7am to 6pm, and the longest zip-line is half a mile long! It's a perfect day for families and those who want to get out of the city for a day.
9.Ride Dune Buggies in the Desert
Las Vegas is surrounded by miles of sand dunes. They began as just part of the landscape, but that doesn't stop both locals and visitors from enjoying them ass much as possible. Drive out to Sun Buggy near Las Vegas Motor Speedway to rent your own dune buggy for the day.
Since you aren't with a tour guide, the possibilities are endless. Go at a slower pace to take in the scenery or race from dune to dune doing donuts and figure-eights. No matter how you decide to spend your day, you'll be guaranteed to leave with a newfound appreciation for the barren desert.
10. Lake Mead National Recreational Area
Lake Mead National Recreation Park Area offers 1.5 million acres of scenery and is America's largest man-made reservoir. With over 50 miles of shoreline, enjoy countless outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, and water sports as well as hiking, camping, climbing, and car tours.
Lake Mead is another perfect way to take a break from the city lights and discover what the beautiful Nevada desert has to offer.
