5 Tips for Visiting Las Vegas on a Tight Budget
You love Las Vegas, and you really want to come more often, but the travel expenses make it difficult to visit as much as you’d like.
Plus, while you’re hanging out in Sin City, wouldn’t it be nice to have more cash for the tables?
Traveling to Las Vegas doesn’t have to drain your bank account. Here are 5 tips for visiting Las Vegas when you’re on a tight budget:
Stay at Hotels Without Resort Fees
What are resort fees?
Many hotels in Las Vegas charge something called a resort fee that you pay at the end of your stay. It’s separate from your room rate, and it’s charged on a nightly basis, but unless you ask about it, you’re probably not going to know how much it is until the end of your stay.
Don’t get stuck with extra fees!
There are some hotels in Las Vegas that don’t charge any daily resort fees at all, and those are the ones where you should stay. Our Las Vegas resort fees guide will keep you up to date.
Book Through Deal Sites
Your room rate and your flight are a big chunk of your trip expense, so start by looking for Las Vegas hotel deals to save money right from the beginning of your planning stage.
It’s not just deals on hotel rooms, though.
You can find Las Vegas hotel promo codes for things like buffet passes, VIP access, and pool passes in addition to discounts on your room price.
Build your trip around great hotel deals, and you can stay at a phenomenal resort without paying premium resort prices.
Uber and Lyft
Getting around Las Vegas is something many people don’t think about, but if you want to get the most out of your trip, you’ll want to see more than just the immediate area around your hotel.
Lyft and Uber are some of the most practical ways to get from place to place in Vegas.
Taking cabs is probably the worst way to get around, so avoid cabbies in favor of cheaper, safer, and faster transportation options.
Here’s a guide to help you plan your transportation.
Set a Gambling Budget
Before you even board your flight, decide exactly how much money you’re willing to spend gambling, and set yourself a hard limit.
Win or lose, don’t go over the amount you budgeted before you enter the casino. Lots of people make the mistake of trying to “win back” their losses, and they end up spending the rest of their trip trying to stretch their budget to cover cheap food and water while they await their flight.
Don’t be that person.
Gambling is an entertainment expense, so plan accordingly.
Drink In Your Room
There’s a Total Wine store just south of the Las Vegas Strip in Town Square, and plenty of other off-strip liquor stores that don’t charge tourist prices.
If you’re traveling with a group of friends and drinking is on your list of must-do Vegas activities, the cheapest way to do it is to drink in your hotel room.
Pricey cocktails and touristy beverages run around $15 per drink, so go ahead and get your souvenir glass…but pregame before you go out to save quite a few bucks.
Meanwhile, if you’re clubbing, don’t pregame too hard.
One of the most common sights in Vegas is a gaggle of drunken girls coming out of the club, falling off their shoes, and struggling to keep their too-tight dresses covering all of their butts. Again, don’t be that person.
Vegas is a lot of fun, and it doesn’t have to be a lot of expense.
Be responsible about your visit, and things will go great!
