Getting around Las Vegas

Pick where you are and where you're going: we line up every way to get there, walking, the free trams, the Monorail, the Deuce, the Loop, a cab or a rideshare, with the time it takes and what it costs.

Formula 1 race week, November 17 to 25: the Deuce runs a modified schedule and route, and taxis add a $15 surcharge on trips to or from the Strip from 1 AM November 19 to noon November 23.

The Monorail closes early, at midnight, November 29 to December 2, December 6 to 10 and December 13 to 15, and at 1 AM on December 3.

Every way

How to get around Las Vegas

On the Strip, the cheapest options are often the quickest: neighbors are a walk or a free tram apart. For the long hops, the Monorail beats traffic on the east side, the Deuce reaches Downtown, and a cab or a rideshare does the rest.

Walking

  • The best way between neighbors, over the pedestrian bridges at the big intersections. The Strip runs about 4 miles from Mandalay Bay to The STRAT, and a resort can take 10 minutes to cross.
  • Heat: average highs are 99°F in June, 105°F in July and 103°F in August (National Weather Service normals). Walk in the evening and carry water.

Free trams

  • Mandalay Bay tram: Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Southbound it runs straight from Excalibur to Mandalay Bay; northbound it stops at Luxor.
  • Aria Express: Park MGM and Aria, Crystals, and Bellagio (the stop for Vdara too).
  • Both are free; hours vary, so check them at the station. The Treasure Island tram is closed until Hard Rock, on the old Mirage site, opens (expected late 2027).

Las Vegas Monorail

  • Seven stations on 3.9 miles of track along the east side of the Strip, about 15 minutes end to end, a train every 4 to 8 minutes. The stations sit at the back of the resorts: allow a few minutes' walk to the platform.
  • Fares online: $5.75 a ride, $13.95 for 24 hours, $24.45 for 2 days, $30.85 for 3 days, up to $59.95 for 7 days; passes are per person. Station prices are higher. Nevada residents: $1 a ride with a Nevada ID at the station booths. Mobile tickets scan at the gates.
  • Hours: 7 AM to midnight on Mondays, to 2 AM Tuesday to Thursday, to 3 AM Friday to Sunday.
  1. MGM Grand
  2. Horseshoe/Paris · walkway to Paris
  3. Flamingo/Caesars Palace · Forum Shops at Caesars
  4. Harrah's/The LINQ
  5. Las Vegas Convention Center · no resort
  6. Westgate
  7. SAHARA

The Deuce bus

  • RTC's Strip bus runs the whole Strip, 24 hours a day, from the South Strip Transit Terminal to Downtown (Fremont Street), with stops at almost every resort. Every 10 to 15 minutes from 7 AM to 1 AM, about every 20 minutes overnight. Slow in Strip traffic, but it goes all the way to Downtown.
  • Fares: $4 a ride, $6 for 2 hours, $8 for 24 hours, $20 for 3 days; children 5 and under free. Pay in the rideRTC app, tap a card on board for a single ride, or bring exact change: drivers carry none.

Vegas Loop

  • The Boring Company's Teslas in tunnels. Open stations: the Convention Center halls, Resorts World, Encore, Westgate, Fontainebleau, SAHARA, Turnberry Towers and the airport (Terminals 1 and 3).
  • Fares: free between Convention Center halls; $4 to $12 for hotel and airport rides ($12 to or from the airport). Usually 7 AM to 9 PM, longer during conventions. Book at vegasloop.com or with the QR code at the station.

Taxis

  • Every resort has a taxi stand; drivers don't pick up on the Strip itself. Up to 5 riders.
  • Meter: $5.50 to start, then $2.96 a mile ($8.21 for the first mile) and $32.40 an hour of waiting, plus a fuel surcharge (19¢ a mile at the current tier), $2.40 for an airport pickup, a 3% excise tax and $3 by card.
  • Airport flat fares: $22.25, $26.25 or $30.25 to the Strip, by zone (see below).

Uber, Lyft and Zoox

  • Uber and Lyft pick up at each resort's rideshare zone, usually in or beside the parking garage: follow the rideshare signs. Prices rise at busy times, like the end of a show or a game.
  • Zoox, Amazon's driverless robotaxi, carries riders on the Strip and to the airport, booked in the Zoox app; rides have been paid since August 2026.

Good to know

Getting around: your questions

Do you need a car in Las Vegas?

Not for the Strip and Downtown: walking, the free trams, the Monorail, the Deuce bus, taxis and rideshare cover them, and most Strip resorts charge for parking. A car pays off for day trips such as Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam or Valley of Fire.

How much is a taxi from the airport to the Strip?

A flat fare set by the Nevada Taxicab Authority: $22.25 to the south Strip (Zone 1, Mandalay Bay to MGM Grand), $26.25 to the center (Zone 2, New York-New York to Horseshoe) and $30.25 to the north (Zone 3, Caesars Palace to The STRAT). A $3 card fee may be added; the same fares apply back to the airport.

How much is the Las Vegas Monorail?

$5.75 a ride or $13.95 for 24 hours online, with passes up to 7 days ($59.95). Nevada residents pay $1 a ride at the station booths with a Nevada ID.

Where does the Monorail stop?

Seven stations on the east side of the Strip, south to north: MGM Grand, Horseshoe/Paris, Flamingo/Caesars Palace, Harrah's/The LINQ, Las Vegas Convention Center, Westgate, SAHARA. It doesn't reach the airport or Downtown.

How much is the Deuce bus?

$4 for a single ride, $6 for 2 hours, $8 for 24 hours and $20 for 3 days. Children 5 and under ride free. It runs 24 hours a day between the South Strip Transit Terminal and Downtown.

Can you walk the Las Vegas Strip?

Yes, and it's often the quickest way between neighbors, but the Strip is about 4 miles long and resorts are bigger than they look: Mandalay Bay to Bellagio is close to 2 miles on foot. From June to August average highs are near or above 100°F, so walk in the evening and carry water.

Can you hail a taxi on the Strip?

No: taxis pick up at the taxi stands every resort has, not on Las Vegas Boulevard itself. From the airport, they wait outside baggage claim.

Where do Uber and Lyft pick up at the airport?

At Terminal 1, on level 2 of the parking garage; at Terminal 3, on the valet level of the garage. Follow the rideshare signs from baggage claim.

Is the Vegas Loop open to visitors?

Yes. Teslas run in tunnels between the Convention Center halls (free) and stations at Resorts World, Encore, Westgate, Fontainebleau, SAHARA and the airport; hotel and airport rides cost $4 to $12. Book at vegasloop.com or with the QR code at the station.
