Circa and the Golden Nugget are the two big names of Fremont Street, a two-minute walk apart. The Golden Nugget opened on August 30, 1946, turned 80 this summer and is downtown’s classic resort, with 2,419 rooms and a pool built around a shark tank. Circa opened in October 2020, a gold glass tower for adults only, with the Stadium Swim pool and a three-story sportsbook. They suit very different trips. Here is how they compare.

Location: Neighbors Under the Canopy

Both face Fremont Street at its west end, under the canopy of the Fremont Street Experience and its nightly light shows. Circa is on the corner of Main Street, across from the Plaza; the Golden Nugget is a block east, between First Street and Casino Center Boulevard. The walk between them takes two or three minutes. The Strip is a taxi, rideshare or Deuce bus ride away. Our getting around guide has every way, and our downtown vs the Strip guide helps if you’re still deciding.

Rooms: Circa’s Are Bigger and Newer

Circa’s rooms are new and large for downtown. The Single King is 439 square feet, with a couch and a mini-fridge, and the Double King, with two king beds, is 424. The Flex King has a couch that turns into a second king bed. New Platinum rooms opened on the top guest floors in September 2026, with 10-foot ceilings. Remember that Circa is 21 and over: everyone in the room, and everyone you bring in, must be an adult.

The Golden Nugget’s 2,419 rooms are spread over four towers, and the tower decides the room. The Carson Tower Deluxe is 364 square feet and the Gold Tower Luxury 378, close to the casino floor; refreshed Gold Tower rooms have a walk-in shower. The Rush Tower, opened in 2009, has the biggest standard rooms, 439 square feet, and corner suites of 611.

Which is better? Circa, for a bigger, newer room. At the Golden Nugget, ask for the Rush Tower.

Pools: Stadium Swim or The Tank

Stadium Swim is Circa’s headline: six temperature-controlled pools on three levels, facing a 143-foot screen that shows the games, with DJs and two swim-up bars. It’s open all year, for ages 21 and over, and hotel guests get two general-admission passes per room per night; cabanas, daybeds and booths cost extra.

The Golden Nugget’s main pool wraps around The Tank, a 200,000-gallon shark aquarium, with a water slide through it, and the Hideout next to it is a separate pool for adults. This year the aquarium is under repair: its sharks are staying at Mandalay Bay’s Shark Reef and the slide is closed, while the pools and bars stay open. Hotel guests get in free with their room key.

Which is better? Circa, for a party with the game on. The Golden Nugget, for families, since Circa doesn’t take anyone under 21.

Casino, Sports and Nightlife

Circa calls its three-story sportsbook the world’s largest, and on a football Sunday it feels like a stadium. At night, the Legacy Club, a rooftop lounge at the top of the tower, has one of the best views downtown. The Golden Nugget is the classic casino floor, and near its hotel lobby you can see the Hand of Faith, a gold nugget of about 61 pounds found in Australia, said to be the largest on display in the world.

Restaurants

Circa has Barry’s Downtown Prime for steak, 8 East for Asian dishes, Saginaw’s Delicatessen, Victory Burger & Wings and Project BBQ. The Golden Nugget has more choice: Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse, Chart House, Saltgrass Steak House, Red Asian Cuisine, Cadillac Mexican Kitchen and The Grille, plus a Chick-fil-A.

What a Night Costs

The rates at the top of this page are today’s lowest at each hotel, per night, with the resort fee: $50 a night plus tax at Circa and $46 at the Golden Nugget. Parking tips the balance: the Golden Nugget’s fee covers self-parking for hotel guests, when the garage has room, while Circa charges its guests $25 a day to self-park and $20 for valet. Room tax comes on top. Our pages for Circa and the Golden Nugget list every rate we track.

Circa or the Golden Nugget: Which Should You Book?

Book Circa if you’re all adults, love sports, want the newest and biggest rooms downtown, or plan to spend afternoons at Stadium Swim.

Book the Golden Nugget if you’re traveling with anyone under 21, want free parking, more restaurants, or a classic downtown resort with a lot of history.
