Mac King Comedy Magic is a family afternoon show of sleight of hand and comedy from a magician who has headlined in Las Vegas since January 2000. After 21 years at Harrah’s, he moved in June 2021 to the Thunderland Showroom on the second level of Excalibur Hotel & Casino, a room of about 411 to 425 seats rebuilt in 2019 around three main stages.
Every seat is at a table: on the main level around the stages, in six booths raised slightly behind it, or on the upper level a few feet higher at the back. There are no video screens, so the answer to where to sit is simple: as close and as central as you can, in a chair that faces the stage.
Best seats for Mac King Comedy Magic
The best seats are the center tables at the front of the main level, in a chair that faces the stage: with no screens, being close is how you follow the small tricks.
The front tables and the booths have been sold as VIP. His act is close-up magic, goldfish included, and the front tables are where you catch the details.
Best value seats
For value, pick a table on the upper level, usually sold as General Admission: it sits only a few feet higher, but that is enough to see over the main level.
VIP has typically cost only a little more than General Admission, so compare the two for your date. If the gap is small, a front table is the better buy at a close-up magic show.
Seats to avoid
Avoid chairs that put your side or back to the stage: many tables are set at right angles or diagonally to it, so some guests end up facing each other instead of the show.
The room has very little slope, with only a few feet between the two levels, so a tall adult in front can hide the stage from a child. A few tables are also squeezed in next to one of the smaller stages and feel cramped.
Accessible seating
The showroom is listed as accessible, and wheelchair and companion seats are handled by the Excalibur box office: call before you book and tell them what you need.
Section by section
Main level
The main level holds the tables in front of and around the stages. For Mac King, the center tables nearest the stage are the prime seats; the side tables see him at more of an angle.
Booths
Six booths, each for up to four people, sit slightly raised behind the main-level tables. They are a natural fit for a family of four. A smaller party may end up sharing one with people it does not know.
Upper level
The upper level sits behind the main level, a few feet higher. It is further from the stage, but the extra height helps children see over the tables in front.
Good to know before you go
- Shows are Tuesday to Saturday at 3:00 pm and last about 70 minutes. The show is dark on Sundays and Mondays.
- An afternoon slot means you can still fit in dinner and an evening show.
- Expect audience participation and a few tricks with live goldfish.
- Sources disagree on the minimum age, so check with Excalibur first if you are bringing a child under 5.
- The Thunderland Showroom is on Excalibur’s second level.

Thunderland is shared with two other shows on our site.
