New Las Vegas Residency Shows in 2021

There’s a light at the end of the pandemic for Las Vegas shows and entertainment. Unfortunately, it isn’t for several more months. 

COVID-19 hit the pause button on Las Vegas in March, causing shows across the valley, from magic to musicals, to close their curtains. Some long-running productions, including Le Reve at the Wynn Las Vegas and Human Nature at the Venetian, have announced they will not be reopening. Popular entertainment company Cirque du Soleil filed for bankruptcy in June.

Superstar headliners, meanwhile, like Lady Gaga, Cher, Aerosmith, Kelly Clarkson, and Sting were forced to postpone their residencies; the Jonas Brothers canceled and have yet to confirm if they will reschedule.

Though some ticket sale websites are starting to show availability for certain residencies, including Reba, Brooks & Dunn starting in December, coronavirus restrictions on gatherings of more than 50 people have yet to be lifted so it’s really anyone’s guess when the City of Entertainment will actually be in full swing.

Our hopes were peaked by the recent announcement of a Las Vegas residency for triple-threat Usher at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. But before you get too excited, remember, it doesn’t start until July 2021.

Here’s a look at some of the top new residencies tentatively on tap for 2021-2022. This doesn’t include headliners who were already performing and may be back like Aerosmith, Bruno Mars, Christina Aguillera, Shania Twain, and Boyz II Men.

While dates have been announced for some of these shows and are currently on sale, others have not. Be aware that dates could change, so stay tuned (and wear your mask).

Sting

We will never lose our faith that musician and humanitarian Sting will be able to perform in Las Vegas starting in October 2021. The 17-time Grammy-winning composer and singer-songwriter, was originally supposed to perform in May-September 2020 at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The show dates were pushed “to ensure the safety of the audience, performers and support crew,” according to Sting’s official Instagram.

Selling more than 100 million albums worldwide to date as part of the Police in the 1970s and ‘80s and as a solo artist, Sting was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. He is well known for his hits with the Police like “Every Breath You Take” and “Roxanne” as well as solo hits like “Fields of Gold” and “Brand New Day.” He released a new album “Sting: My Songs”—featuring modern interpretations of his hits—on May 24.

Tickets for My Songs: The Las Vegas Residency are currently on sale for October 29 through November 13, 2021 and June 3-18, 2022. Prices start at $55, plus tax.

ZZ Top

Longtime Southern rock and blues band ZZ Top also postponed their new Las Vegas residency until 2021. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees—two who have beards and one who does not (but whose last name happens to be Beard)—have since rescheduled for October 8, 9, 13, 15, and 16 at the Venetian Theatre inside the Venetian Las Vegas.

They “look forward to seeing you all in Vegas soon,” according to a statement from the band.ZZ Top has been rocking with its signature growling guitar sound and often humorous lyrics since 1969. With 15 studio albums and three MTV Video Music Awards, the band has sold around 50 million albums worldwide.

Tickets for ZZ Top: Viva Las Vegas start at $45 plus tax and fees.

Usher

Grammy-winning artist Usher promises an only-in-Vegas spectacular in 2021 that will span his 20-year career, ranging from his early records to his recent songs and new music.

First discovered 20 years ago on “Star Search,” Usher has since risen to the top of the charts as one of the best-selling artists in American music history with eight Grammy Awards. His recently released single “Don’t Waste My Time,” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B chart.

Usher is currently recording his ninth studio album, to be released in late 2020. He released a new single from the upcoming album, “Bad Habits,” on Sept. 12.

There are currently 12 performances of Usher: The Las Vegas Residency on sale: July 16, 17, 21, 23, 24, 28, 30; Dec 28, 29 and 31, 2021; and Jan 1, 2022. All shows start at 9 p.m. Tickets start at $59, plus tax and fees.

Usher, Live Nation Las Vegas, and Caesars Entertainment will donate $1 of every ticket to the superstar’s nonprofit New Look, Inc., which he founded in 1999 to empower youth in underserved communities.

The Scorpions

German rock band The Scorpions postponed their exclusive Sin City Nights Vegas Residency with special guest Queensryche at Planet Hollywood’s Zappos Theater until March 2022. “We want our fans and everyone involved in the shows to be safe during these uncertain times,” the band wrote on social media.

Forming in Hanover in 1965, The Scorpions have sold more than 110 million records around the globe. Their residency will feature such fan favorites as “Wind of Change,” “Still Loving You,” and “Send me an Angel.”

Tickets are now on sale for The Scorpions with Queensryche from March 26, 2022. The shows start at 8 p.m. Prices start at $41 plus tax and fees.

Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson was set to headline starting in April 2020 but announced via Twitter in May that she was postponing her residency, Kelly Clarkson: Invincible, for obvious reasons.

Dates have yet to be announced for Clarkson’s upcoming show at Zappos Theater Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in 2021, but is billed as a one-of-a-kind, up-close music journey through her award-winning smash hits.

You probably remember Clarkson’s ascendance to fame as winner of the first “American Idol” season. The Texas-born singer has since sold more than 25 million albums and 36 million singles worldwide. She stays busy as a coach on The Voice and as host of the highly rated daytime talk show, “The Kelly Clarkson Show.” Since the pandemic began, Clarkson released a new single, “I Dare You.”
