Tournament of Kings is Excalibur’s medieval dinner show, playing King Arthur’s Arena since the resort opened in 1990: the longest-running show on the Strip, says the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Knights on horseback joust and fight for their kings while you eat dinner with your hands. It’s a family show, and a loud one.
What to expect
The evening is staged as a feast for King Arthur’s son, Christopher. Kings from across Europe compete in jousts, javelin throws and sword fights on horseback, Merlin works a little magic, and Mordred, the evil fire wizard, turns up to spoil the party with fire and pyrotechnics. Ten horses work each show, out of 17 stabled at the hotel.
Each section of the arena roots for one king, so expect to bang on the table and shout “Huzzah” on cue. Dinner arrives during the show, without utensils: roast chicken, lemon-pepper red potatoes, corn on the cob, a dinner roll and an apple square for dessert.
Good to know
No cutlery on the table, but your server will bring flatware if you ask.
Vegetarian and gluten-free meals need advance notice: request one when you book, and remind your server once you’re seated.
Children under 3 can sit on an adult’s lap for free and share that adult’s meal.
Around the holidays the show turns into ’Twas the Knight, with a Twelve Days of Christmas number and snow at the finale.
Where to sit
About 900 seats in roughly five rows ring an oval floor, with a castle at one end. There are eight sections, seven named after countries plus the Dragon, and your section’s king is the one you cheer for.
