Popovich Comedy Pet Theater is Gregory Popovich’s family show, and its cast is more than 25 cats, dogs, parrots and geese, plus a mini horse and a mini pig, every one of them adopted from a shelter. It has played the V Theater, in the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, since 2006. It’s a 2:30 PM matinee that runs 70 minutes with no intermission, and it’s open to all ages.
What to expect
Popovich is a fourth-generation circus performer: a soloist with the Moscow Circus at 16, later a finalist on America’s Got Talent, and he trains every animal in the show himself. Don’t expect a parade of tricks. The animals act in slapstick sketches, with names like the Dog Class Room, the Animal Train Station and the Amazing House-Cats, and acrobats and jugglers share the stage with them. It’s pitched at kids, with enough circus craft to keep the adults watching.
Good to know
All ages are welcome, and children under 2 sit free on a parent’s lap, according to the show.
Cameras and video recording aren’t allowed during the show, phones included.
The V Theater is in Suite 360 of the Miracle Mile Shops, the mall attached to Planet Hollywood.
The show lets out around 3:40 PM, so it fits an afternoon without cutting into dinner.
Where to sit
The show plays V1, the V Theater's room of 369 seats: curved rows AA to DD around the front of the stage, a center block of rows A to J behind them, and angled rows on each side. With animals on stage, close matters: the middle of rows AA to DD, sold as VIP Front, cost only a little more than VIP Middle when we checked. Side Front, on the angled sides, is the value pick. Our Popovich Comedy Pet Theater seating chart maps every category.
