V – The Ultimate Variety Show is a fast run of specialty acts, from acrobats and jugglers to magic and comedy, with no story tying them together. Producer David Saxe premiered it at the Venetian in 2002, then built the V Theater for it in what are now the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, its home since 2004. It runs 75 minutes, and all ages are welcome.
What to expect
Your host is Wally Eastwood, billed as the world’s fastest juggler, who keeps things moving between acts. The rest comes from a roster of about a dozen acts that rotate, so no two nights are quite the same. The show’s own site lists a daredevil roller-skating duo, hand-to-hand acrobats, an Olympic rhythmic gymnast with her hula hoops, a German wheel act, magic with live birds, comedy drumming and aerialists who fly out over the seats.
Good to know
All ages. Children 2 and under get in free if they sit on a parent’s lap, according to the V Theater.
Expect audience participation: comic Russ Merlin builds his act around volunteers pulled from the crowd.
The V Theater is a complex of four showrooms and two bars inside the Miracle Mile Shops, the mall attached to Planet Hollywood.
Where to sit
V plays V1, the V Theater's room of 369 seats: curved rows AA to DD around the front of the stage, a center block of rows A to J behind them, and angled rows on each side. Our pick is rows A to G of the center block, sold as VIP: straight on to the stage, for less than VIP Floor in front. The ends of rows BB to DD cost as much as their middle but sit beside the stage. Our V seating chart maps every category.
